So I know what you're thinking; 'wow, it's been forever since she has written on this here blog of hers.'
Okay yes, that is true. Please forgive me.
But let me get right to the point of today's bake! Have you ever seen the show Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime? Well if you haven't you should totally watch it, because it's absolutely amazing. My inspiration for today's bake came from Drop Dead Diva. One of the main characters Stacy accidentally made a pie/cake; a Pake. It is a combination of a cake and a pie. The cake itself sits in a pie shell; you can fill the cake with anything that you want. Let me tell you that I am super excited to make one of these famous pakes.
So without further adieu, here is the pake recipe.
Ingredients:
- Pie crust (frozen or homemade)
- Cake mix (your choice)
- Frosting
- Chocolate chips (if desired)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Take out pie dough and let thaw (if using store bought)
- If you plan on making your own pie dough, do this now. Place it in the refrigerator to cool (click here for a recipe for the best pie dough you will ever have)
- Prepare your cake batter per box instructions (you will have enough batter for 2 pakes)
- It's time for your pie dough.
- Store bough pie: Place your pie dough in a pie pan and poke holes into the bottom.
- Homemade pie dough: Remove your pie dough from the fridge and roll out an 11 inch circle (this will fit a 9 inch pie pan) Place the dough circle into a pie pan and poke holes into the bottom of the dough.
- Pour half of your cake batter into the pie shell.
- Mix in the chocolate chips (if desired)
- Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Once 35 minutes have passed, turn down the oven to 325 degrees and bake for another 15 minutes.
- Take out of the oven and cool completely
- Frost and ENJOY!!
